Cameos of Caring Application Process and
Timeline
Cameos
of Caring was inspired
by Ellen Rudy, Dean of the University of Pittsburgh
School of Nursing, in 1998. One night, while relaxing at home, Dr.
Rudy read an Ann Landers newspaper column, which featured letters
from several nurses. The letters had a common theme. The nurses
were disillusioned with their working conditions and were
discouraged with the lack of recognition for their profession. As
Dr. Rudy read the letters, she decided, “it was time to honor those
unsung heroes on the front lines of health care.”
Dean Patricia Martin of
the Wright State University- Miami Valley College of Nursing
and Health first read about Cameos of Caring in the Spring
2000 issue of Pitt Nurse. As she read the article, she was
certain Miami Valley health care agencies would participate in a
gala to honor its outstanding nurses.
Lovetta Blanke, RN,
SWOSNA member has graciously made it possible to sponsor SWOSNA as a
Cameo partner. A Cameo partner enables SWOSNA to participate in the
Cameos of Caring spotlight in our community. For several years now,
Lovetta has confirmed SWOSNA’s involvement with a gracious monetary
commitment for a Cameo partnership: $2,500. Anyone can be an
individual Cameo Supporter for $75, which means the supporter will
receive a ticket to the awards dinner. A Cameo Sponsor: $1,000
ensures a table for eight and program recognition.
